About Acorntherapy Singapore

Acorntherapy is a boutique EMDR psychotherapy service in Singapore founded in 2015.

It specialises in EMDR therapy and trauma-focused psychotherapy, and focuses on quality delivery of evidence-based and effective psychological service.

It is led by founder Wang Yi Shing, a Certified EMDR Practitioner.

Our Major Therapeutic Approaches

As EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a client-centred and integrative psychotherapy, we use EMDR therapy as the foundation and structure of our therapy service, and weave into it, where appropriate, aspects of various therapy orientations, including:
  • Psychodynamic Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
  • Emotionally-Focused Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Theory of Structural Dissociation of Personality
  • Ego-State Therapy
In particular, we are attachment-focused, and emphasise the skills and techniques of breathwork, visualisation, and mindfulness for emotional regulation.

Clinical Background

Yi Shing has extensive experience working with people distressed by challenges in life, at work and at home. At the Institute of Mental Health, Yi Shing worked with adult patients, as well as parents of distressed adolescents in its Child Guidance Clinic.

With advances made in psychotherapy and neural sciences, Yi Shing’s work with clients evolved to become principally brain-based and trauma-focused, using modalities such as EMDR to help people overcome challenges in life, career, and mental health conditions.

Integrating evidence-based innovations in EMDR

Yi Shing is a lifelong learner on a constant quest for treatment that is more efficacious, cost-effective, safe, and produces sustained healing for clients. She continually integrates into her clinical practice up-to-date EMDR clinical innovations that are supported by research evidence. Her effort has met with excellent clinical outcomes.

Yi Shing believes that the more safely, efficiently and cost-effectively we are able to treat mental health complaints, the more we can reduce prolonged suffering of people. That will in turn contribute to greater mental wellbeing and resilience of the society.

From senior lawyer to trauma-focused psychotherapist

Prior to her career in psychotherapy, Yi Shing was a lawyer in private practice in international finance and investment laws for 25 years. She was a partner and headed departments at leading law firms, led a number of pioneering transactions in the Singapore-China market, and was recognised as leading counsel in legal journals over the years. She was a frequent speaker at forums in Singapore and China, convened by government agencies, chambers of commerce, and major corporations.

Yi Shing has lived and worked in England and Shanghai for 20 years.

For these reasons, Yi Shing is keenly aware of the pressures and challenges of professional life in the fast lane, as well as migration, transitioning and adjusting to a new country.
